These two haven’t had the best start to the season but the Group Stage format means you’re never quite out of it until the bitter end, so it’s still all to play for.

The Super Kings are 2-1 up on the head-to-head record with the Capitals’ sole win mostly down to a wonderful bowling performance from James Neesham in January 2018, who took 3-7. There have also been two abandoned matches between the two due to bad weather.

Pretoria Capitals: Current Squad

Will Jacks

Will Jacks is a…Jack-of-all-trades if you’ll excuse the pun; but he really is. He opens the batting and can be explosive while also bowling some very handy off-spin and fielding in key positions, so he really is an asset.

Jimmy Neesham

Few have played as much T20 cricket around the world as Neasham and the ability to score quick, lower-order runs as well as bowl in those middle-overs gives the side real balance.

Rilee Roussouw

The skipper is yet to get going with the bat this season but has an incredible eight T20 centuries to his name, which is up there with the very best, so you’d think it’s only a matter of time before he starts firing here and makes a big impact.

Joburg Super Kings: Current Squad

  • Sibonelo Makhanya
  • Tabraiz Shamsi
  • Beuran Hendricks
  • Hardus Viljoen

Jonny Bairstow

Bairstow was left out of England’s side to play India but that has been good news for the Super Kings, who have a very capable keeper and explosive batsman in their ranks who has already hit an excellent 60 in a match this season.

Donovan Ferreira

Another all-rounder who can affect any match with either bat or ball and has done just that so far, meaning he’s a player who gives the side good stability and carries on being an integral cog.

Imran Tahir

Tahir was left out for the first couple of matches, but the Super Kings captain Du Plessis and the management realised he still has a big part to play for the side, and he hasn’t let them down with handy wickets in those middle-overs, that so often break big partnerships.

Top Batsman for both teams

Jonny Bairstow to be Super Kings Top Batsman

Bairstow is their leading run-scorer at the time of writing and that should come as no surprise because he’s got some excellent T20 figures to his name. Because he bats at four rather than opening, the betting odds on him are generally much bigger at reliable bookmakers for betting than the players coming in above him.

Will Jacks to be Pretoria Capitals’ Top Batsman

The English batsman has enjoyed himself in this tournament over the past few years and has also learnt a lot about these SA pitches, so is perfectly placed to go out and get some big scores. Especially given he has plenty of time at the crease as an opener.

Predicted Line-Ups

  1. Pretoria Capitals Precited Line-Up: Jacks, Gurbaz, Smeed, Verreynne, Roussouw, Neesham, Ackerman, Muthsamy, Pretorius, Bosch, van Vuuren.

  2. Joburg Super Kings Predicted Line-up: Conway, du Plessis, Du Plooy, Bairstow, Ali, Ferreira, Wiese, Makhanya, Viljoen, Tahir, Shamsi.

Suggested Bets

Time to move onto some cricket betting insights as to which players can have an impact on this match. Remember that one of the most important cricket betting strategies is to always shop around for the highest odds possible, so our suggestion is to have an account at two or three of the best betting sites for cricket, allowing you to secure the best odds each time.

  1. Imran Tahir to be Joburg Kings Top Bowler: Tahir will bowl his four overs, set aggressive fields, bowl at the stumps and try to get players out, so he always gives you a good chance when betting on him.

  2. Jason Behrendorff to be Sunrisers Top Bowler: The big Aussie hasn’t played much outside his native country over the years but when he’s fit, he’s as good a fast bowler as anyone, as a brilliant strike rate of 17.4 suggests.

Value Bets

Remember that when playing at the best cricket betting sportsbooks, there are tons of other side markets beyond just match winner and innings runs. Here’s a good example.

  1. Moeen Ali to be Player of the match: We haven’t mentioned Ali yet, but this is a vastly experienced player who is yet another all-rounder who does the lot. His batting hasn’t quite been at the standard it was a few years ago but his bowling has been accurate and sharp and sooner or later it will all click for him, as it has for most of his career; so, he could be the game-changer here.

Prediction: Super Kings to Win

The Super Kings have a superior record against this lot courtesy of being 2-1 up across three seasons. Though they’re quite evenly matched in the table, Joburg have had better fielding positions in place, rotated the bowlers more wisely and handed the key moments of the game in a slightly more street-smart way, which can make a big difference. A win for them here could seriously help their Playoff chances, and they should get it.

For fans exploring sports betting in South Africa, this is a great game to get involved in from a betting perspective.
