SuperSport United welcome Golden Arrows, a fellow relegation-threatened competitor, to the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Gavin Hunt’s Matsatsantsa are hurting in the league, without a win in three. Golden Arrows, meanwhile, are none the better, three points off their current opponents with the same league form.

Of the two, SuperSport is notably off the pace, but a recent cup victory could uplift their spirits. Golden Arrows, on the other hand, were humiliated in their cup encounter and a subsequent 1-1 draw with Cape Town City, followed by a tough run-in with Orlando Pirates could take a toll on their confidence. SuperSport United Current Form – WDLLW

SuperSport United might not be ecstatic over a home fixture, losing the last three in front of their fans – conceding seven without scoring.

A red card for Tashreeq Morris (who is now a Kaizer Chiefs player) in their game against Sekhukhune United ended in a 3-0 defeat. Matsatsantsa maintained 64% of the possession in their next home defeat against Polokwane City, which is rare for Gavin Hunt’s side, amassing a measly two shots on target the entire game.

In their most recent home defeat, SuperSport faced the defending champions and log leaders Sundowns, conceding two in the first half and one early in the second to lose the game 3-0.

The defensive playing style is not a viable play for the league, but Hunt has become stuck in his ways. It has, however, worked out in the cup run where their most recent result was a Round-of-16 win via a 119th-minute goal from Lebohang Maboe.

Key Players to Watch

  • Nyiko Mobbie: The 30-year-old has not let his quality drop since joining from Mamelodi Sundowns, featuring in all 18 league fixtures for SuperSport. The right-back brings heaps of assurance to a struggling backline.
  • Christian Saile: One thing SuperSport lack this season is goals, having scored just seven in 17 fixtures. One of those came from new acquisition Saile – a former Kaizer Chiefs player ready to prove a point to his former employers.
  • Samir Nurkovic: The 32-year-old striker may not have the legs he once had to get into dangerous positions, but his composure in the build-up has opened up good spaces for wingers to exploit.

SuperSport United Team News

Bongani Sam and Edson Castillo have reportedly returned to training after lengthy spells on the sidelines. Meanwhile, the league's most experienced striker Bradley Grobler is also in light training. Grant Margeman, however, is still out nursing an ACL, though Siyabong Ndebele returns after a one-match suspension.

Golden Arrows Current Form – DLLDW

While SuperSport United found some reprieve in their Cup encounter, Golden Arrows had a tough outing against Chippa United and are now on a run of four games without a win.

Golden Arrows are in desperate need of more bite up front, scoring just 13 all season – albeit six more than their current opponents. And it’s not like their defence counteracts the lack of threat in the final third, conceding 16 goals in 15 fixtures.

Ryan Moon and Siyanda Mthanti have both been a breath of fresh air up front for Abafana Bes’thende, with Moon scoring three goals and assisting one, while Mthanti has scored one and provided three assists. However, the 21-year-old Mthanti has been missing from the squad due to injury.

Key Players to Watch

  • Ryan Moon: When Ryan Moon plays, the attacking threat for Golden Arrows increases. However, after an initial uptick in form upon his return from injury, his impact has died down a bit. Still, he remains a danger if the team finds its rhythm.
  • Nduduzi Sibiya: The 29-year-old has been a good fill-in for the youngster Mthanti down the right wing, scoring one and assisting one this season.
  • Themba Mantshiyane: Themba has been a part of every team sheet for Arrows this season, and the towering center-back is needed to maintain a sense of calm with wave after wave of opposition attack.

Golden Arrows Team News

Thabani Zuke has just made his return to the squad after being out since October. On the other hand, Lwanda Mbankwa has been out after just two appearances and his return date is unknown.

Predicted Line-Ups

  1. SuperSport United, 4-2-3-1: T. M. Mbanjwa; N. Mobbie, I. Okon, É. Mbangossoum, K. Ayer; B. Poggenpoel, S. Ndlovu; C. Saile, L. Maboe, G. J. Lungu; S. Nurković.

  2. Golden Arrows, 4-1-4-1: I. Watenga; S. Cele, G. Shitolo, T. Mantshiyane, B. Theron; L. Dube; A. Van Rooi, N. Sibiya, V. Ndwandwe, S. Mthanti; B. Cele.

Suggested Bets

  1. Over 2.5 goals: Both these sides have had rather leaky defences and over 2.5 goals looks a smart bet. (8/10 with Supabets)

  2. First Half Double Chance – SuperSport United or Draw: Of the two, SuperSport look the likelier to draw first blood; backing them on the win/draw half-time double at home against struggling opposition seems a solid option. (11/10 with Hollywoodbets)

Value Bets

  1. Last Goal (Golden Arrows):  Whether it ends in a draw, or a SuperSport United win, you can expect Arrows not to go down without a fight. We can see them getting a late consolation goal. (14/10 with Betway)

  2. SuperSport United Win: While this fixture could go either way, SuperSport have a little more quality in the attacking third with more options to choose from. They just need to put it all together and take their chances. (13/10 with Hollywoodbets)

Prediction: Both Teams to Score (Yes) and Over 2.5 Goals

SuperSport United’s defensive setup has been their undoing in the league, while Golden Arrows are struggling for consistency. Both sides have lacked stability at the back, and with their attacking threats finding space, this could turn into an open contest. Expect goals on either end, with over 2.5 goals looking likely.
